Van den Berg and Agidens Infra Automation renovate Antwerp North-South connection

The Van den Berg – Agidens Infra Automation consortium was appointed by Infrabel to carry out the renovation works on the Antwerp North-South connection.

The North-South connection is a bored tunnel that provides Antwerp Central Station with faster connection to the north of the city and the province, and to the Netherlands. The tunnel is approximately 4 kilometers long and goes underground between Antwerp-Berchem station and Antwerp-Central station and comes back above ground near Antwerp-Dam.

Long-term agreement

The Van den Berg and Agidens Infra Automation teams will manage the replacement, integration and extension of the security installations of this rail tunnel. The project consists of a Design & Build phase of about 3 years and a maintenance contract running for 17 years, until 2040.

Combined forces

Van den Berg and Agidens Infra Automation, which was recently acquired by Van den Berg, can look back on earlier successes. The complementarity of the two companies has already resulted in the successful construction of the Liefkenshoek railway tunnel. Currently, Agidens Infra Automation and Van den Berg are also working together on the renovation of the Antwerp Kennedy railway tunnel. With this new project, they are once again joining forces to combine their expertise and bring this complex project to a successful conclusion.

The works will start in September 2021.
